“The Old Man and His Grandson” by Domenico Ghirlandiao a Florentian Renaissance painter; 1480.
Rhinophyma is the end stage of rosacea and can be horribly disfiguring as well as psychologically and emotionally debilitating. It is more common in middle aged men, but can also happen in women. It is the overgrowth of sebaceous (oil glands). In addition, on occasion, a basal cell cancer can grow in this excess skin.
There is no medical treatment for curing rhinophyma. In order to reshape your nose, Dr Gladstone uses a combination of high tech lasers as well as a scalpel and electrocautery. Dr Gladstone performs this sculpting using local anesthesia and oral sedation. Dr. Gladstone understands how rhinophyma can negatively affect your life, and he specializes in this procedure. He has published his technique and results in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery.
